Local man playing a role in two Grammy nominations

The eyes of the music world will be focused on Los Angeles on Sunday night for the Grammy Awards. What you may not know is that a Wayne County man is playing a key role in two of the many nominations.

Despite growing up with a stutter, Benedict Sheehan, the music director at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Wayne County, has played a key role in two nominations for this Sunday’s Grammy’s.

“I haven’t totally overcome it obviously, but I found an outlet in music and singing and also in conducting which is a way for me to speak with my arms,” Sheehan told Eyewitness News.

The two nominations include a recording by the Patram Institute singers which Sheehan helped found and a collboration with his friend, Steven Fox, with a disc to commemorate the end of World War One.

“It was great, it’s great to see that, it’s great to know that the world we’re trying to build in music is getting the recognition it deserves,” Sheehan said
